Redondo 8/24/19 - Six-Gill

Post by Scubie Doo »

Hello, hope everyone is having a good weekend. Saturday morning I ventured out to find the Six-Gill at Redondo. I headed down the main rope to the carousel boat. From the boat I took an east heading and kicked out for about 5 minutes. I quickly glanced down at my camera and when I looked back up, a 6'-7' Six-gill was swimming right towards me. I quickly squeezed off one shot from about 6’. I let it get about 2' away and I took one more shot. I lowered my camera to stare into its eye and savor the moment. It passed and peeled off to the deep. I swam after it for a few minutes hoping it would circle back. Unfortunately, it did not. But I was extremely excited to spend a couple minutes with this beautiful critter.

Although I did not get the exact angle/shot I wanted. I am thankful for the brief encounter :) Have a great week everyone.

I was wondering where you were yesterday morning. Well, crap. Great detail on those shots. I've never noticed the little nodules along its back before.

Derek- my apologies. Wasn’t sure if it was confirmed. I should have followed up.

No worries. I should have texted you to make sure. And by the time we splashed, we had figured you weren't able to make it.

Judging from the wound just above the right pec fin, we encountered the same shark Sunday evening. Showed for about 20 seconds to check us out, then headed off.

So cool. Ridiculous as a matter of fact.

And no, I'm not jealous one little bit....

So I think the wound above the shark's pectoral fin is just a normal marking, and not a wound. Both these sharks have similar markings on both sides:
