Whidbey Island Critters
Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Keystone Jetty, July 23rd dive with Maya.
Late afternoon dive, with the sun setting and lots of particles in the water, it felt more like a night dive.

Great sculpins moved onto the pile of tires .
It seems other species of fish enjoy the comforts of discarded toilet.

I watched at two spots on the small tire reef the Grateful Decorator Crabs what looked like cleaning stuff off the skin of Buffalo sculpin.
The crabs were covered with the egg capsules of Wrinkled Dogwinkle snails.

Keystone Jetty, August 15th dive.
What did I see?
One healthy Sunflower star and one juvenile Puget Sound crab.
Skeleton shrimp on Bull kelp, looks like munching on snail eggs.

What would Keystone be without its Lingcod ? Few large females are back.
The crabs are permanent residents, but the Sunflower star is a rare sight these days...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
So nice to see a sunflower star at Keystone, Jan. I really like that scalyhead sculpin photo by the way!
Re: Whidbey Island Critters
I agree, it is a hopeful sign, lets hope that Sunflower star will return to our waters...
Skyline, August 31st dive.
Also known as Candyland by some divers.
Of course, there is much more to enjoy besides the Candy stripe shrimp...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Skyline, August 31st dive. The new Nudibranchs & Slugs of the Eastern Pacific book includes some new names of slugs we encounter quite often. Now we have two clowns and three whitish dendronotids in our waters. The Red dendronotid kept its name, at least for this time. Good luck in your hunt, keep the camera shutter busy !
