I'm travelling to Fukuoka Japan in October and am wondering if it's worth doing a side trip to Okinawa to dive.
I have never heard or read anything about diving in Okinawa so wanted to get some opinions
cheers
Scott.

I was certified in Okinawa when I was in the Marine Corps. The diving on Okinanwa is pretty good especially if you are a history buff.
Do a search on Scubaboard and you'll get tons of info.

Or on TDS, lots of shallow historical stuff there to see.

I could have sworn that Mongodiver was talking about diving there before

Diving on Okinawa is great, tons of hard and soft corals, water temps in the high 70's this time of year.
There are a ton of great shore dives, and several english speaking dive shops that do boat dives to the smaller islands around Okinawa as well as some of the closer in reefs.
I posted somewhere on this board several of the english speaking dive shops contact info.
Off the top of my head I can only remember Reef encounters. www.reefencounters.org
If you ask on SB zen divers there are several shop owners that post there.
