Re: It's Crawfish Time!!
Don't tell me y'all are eating store-bought, farm-raised mud bugs! We've got 'em growing here in the PNW, all you need is your tanks, a catch bag, and quick reactions to collect a mess of em. Both Pass and Strawberry lakes on Fidalgo and Whidbey island are known for good-sized crawdads. Haven't been buggin' this year yet (I'm still on the road) but am looking forward to getting back and getting wet, with fish, bugs, and crabs (Dungeness) for a reward.

The ones around here don't taste the same. It's just not right without the Louisiana MUD taste.
Plus it takes awhile to pick up 100 pounds of bugs!

They don't live in salt water. They grow inland in ponds and swamps.

Re: It's Crawfish Time!!
Speaking of crawfish, are there any good streams/lakes to get them here in Western WA?
Re: It's Crawfish Time!!
Mineral Lake has tons! http://www.minerallake.com/
Need traps to get them. To many hiding places for them to just grab them.

Re: It's Crawfish Time!!
They come out at night.... and they're silly, you can just grab them. It's ridiculous, I know, but apparently they don't have a very good flight response (until you've grabbed them).wallyc72 wrote:Mineral Lake has tons! http://www.minerallake.com/

You just use like frozen fish for bait, like salmon bait?rjarnold wrote:They come out at night.... and they're silly, you can just grab them. And Wally (edit: oops, sorry Rj I meant you), Are there shallow rocky spots you grab them or are talking about diving for them?

Re: It's Crawfish Time!!
I've dove for them, and don't use any bait. Of course, the better thing is to put a trap out while you're diving for them. A person I know uses a tin of cat food...WASP7000 wrote:You just use like frozen fish for bait, like salmon bait?rjarnold wrote:They come out at night.... and they're silly, you can just grab them.
