New sites......For me, anyway.

Post by cardiver »

I met up with Bassman this morning for dives at two sites that I've driven by at least 100 times but have never dove (dived?).
We did a giant stride off of the pier at Shananigan's on the Tacoma waterfront for our first dive to explore a bottle field that is there.
Viz was so so and appeared to be about 15 fsw and the bottom was very silty. Keith found a few cool bottles and we saw a couple of little octos but not a lot else.
Our second dive was at Thea Foss park, which is a little bit east Shuster Pkwy. This site has potential to be very cool as there is a huge barge direcrly out from the entry at about 70 fsw. The viz on this dive was horrible so we only spent about 20 minutes down at the barge before heading back up slope.
Thanks, Keith for introducing me to a couple of new sites!

I forgot to tell Ron about this little guy I found just before we left the barge at Thea Park.<br />This guy was about the size of my thumb nail and now that I look at the picture it looks as if there might have been an even a smaller one. Do you see it?

The thick silt seemed to be a great place for the Brittle Stars to hang out!

These always stand out on a silty bottom.

The steps at Thea Park are kind of big. This is Ron getting out.

Cute eyes in the second octo pic.

Keith, I think there might be three Grunt Sculpins.

It felt great to take the camera out, sans strobe and focus light!

Nice, always great to hear about new sites in the area. Keith, want to show me around those parts sometime? It's been way too long since we dived together! I'm back in the PNW in October (in Chuuk now).

Just one grunt. The other critters in the picture are three hermit crabs and a shrimp.
