Hit Redondo with Mr. Penders last night. Had a little fun with my hand held mirror. Pretty challenging to capture good shots using the mirror, got a couple keepers :-)

Thanks for the kind words. I have done this once in the past and it is super hard to get the critters to land/walk/crawl onto the mirror. Mike helped with the Bay Pipefish by holding the mirror at various angles for me. It does break the monotony a bit and it provides a different view.

Thanks Bob. Penders deserves credit for his mirror assist on the pipefish :)

These pictures are just really cool and creative! Thanks for sharing and inspiring.

I am interested in giving this a try on an upcoming trip to Indonesia. Muck diving + Mirror might be pretty interesting. Can you tell me what size mirror you used? How do you store or attach it?

Thanks,
Dave

I bought a cheap one at target. I'll post a picture when I get home.

Here is a picture of the mirror. Just a cheapo cosmetic mirror, one that you don't mind losing or scratching. The key is to get one that is slightly negative. I use a simply bungee loop and attach it to my rig. When I'm diving I store it in my waist strap. Again, if I lose it, no big deal.

As far as getting things on the mirror, that takes a ton of patience. Especially nudibranch. Lumpie, stubbies, and octo hate the mirror and bolt at the first sight :) you will need to shake the mirror prior to the critter landing to remove silt and dirt. Good luck and please post your shots.
