Naturally on my last day in PT this trip. I find these two fascinating critters that I have never seen before.
The first is this cool looking crab. Smile for the camera!
The second is this shrimp. Sorry the pix aren't the greatest but he was in a very tight location where I couldn't get in close with the camera. He was a beautiful iridescent purple with lines of white spots down the sides.

That looks like a sparkling shrimp, and the behavior would be typical, from what I've read. Neat find!

The first is a hairy crab, Hapalogaster mertensii, and the second (as already noted) a sparkling shrimp, Pandalopsis lucidirimicola, a species I described after my book came out. They come with either dark purple stripes like this or bright red ones. I've seen them at the PT jetty but not last night.

Yeah, we went in at about 8:30. Absolutely zero current. I saw your little buddy, the ribbed sculpin.

Sorry I didn't know. I would have stuck around and maybe given you the grand tour and introduced you to some of my underwater friends.
There are bunches of ribbed sculpins out there if you know where to look and vermilion rock fish too. I even managed to get this pic of a male rib courting a lady friend.
