If we are communicating numbers UW we use: Numbers 1 through 5. Palm faces viewer fingers 1 through 5 point up. Numbers 6 through 9. Back of hand faces viewer fingers point to side. Personally, I have never been in the water without being covered, but I only have coverage for medical problems through DAN.
