Canon Powershot S100 - photos?
Does anyone have this camera and can give a link to view some of the photos taken with it underwater?
I just ordered it and a Canon housing for my hubby's birthday, and would love to see what it's capable of.

Most of these were shot with the S95, the S100 should be an upgrade.

Wow, those are gorgeous! Did you have some sort of external strobe for the underwater shots or is that using the onboard strobe?

Brick, Those photo's are awesome but I am sure they didn't look like that right out of the camera. It's obvious you are a very talented post processor as well as photographer.
Looks like a good choice for a compact pocketable camera. The camera is only half of the equation! The S-100 should be more than capable of producing great results in he proper hands.
The S100 is in effect a whole new camera compared to the S95; almost every key feature has been upgraded or updated:
24-120mm (equivalent) lens range, F2.0-5.9, built-in neutral density filter
12.1 MP 1/1.7" Canon CMOS sensor
DIGIC 5 image processor
ISO 80-6400
2.3 fps continuous shooting (9.6 fps for 8 frames in High-Speed burst mode)
Full HD (1080p24) movie recording; H.264 compression, MOV format
Optical zoom in movie mode
Super slow motion movie recording (640 x 480 @ 120fps, 320 x 240 @ 240 fps)
Direct movie record button
Built-in GPS unit with image tagging and logger functions

Canon Powershot S100 - photos?
Janna,
In the past, I have done a google search for particular camera I was interested in. For example, "Canon S100 underwater photos". You will get a lot of tropical photos. But many times the photographer will post the housing, settings, and lighting used. On occasion I have even emailed the photographer and talked to them about settings and lighting. It is a great starting point. You have probably done this, but just thought I'd chime

No, I haven't! Good idea - although I was thinking I'd really like to see local photos from local divers in our lovely conditions we have to really see what it can do. But I'll try your method - thanks for suggesting it!

Janna, I agree. Local photos would be awesome. When you look at tropical photos pay attention to the macro photos, because shooting macro here and tropical is pretty much the same (technique wise). The wide angle tropical photos can pretty much be ignored, since those opportunities are almost never seen up here. Plus, wide angle is the major shortcoming of any p&s camera without perfect PNW conditions.
Make sure you post some results, even if you have to steal them from your hubby's SD card

Janna, here's an excellent site with recommendations for camera settings. I used these settings for my G12 and have had great results. BTW, I see Canon has another new camera - the PowerShot G1 X - but it's spendy!

IF you are still interested in the pictures that the powershot s1takes, I have several from different dive trips, I am a pretty bad photographer so you can get a look at how it performs in the hands of a total novice. I also have a bit of video from both lake Tahoe and Monterey CA that I took.
