Horn shark?

Were you thinking of the walking sharks they have found in Indonesia? I thought they were an Epaulette Shark too.defied wrote:Not the one I'm thinking of, though. 0]

Wait . . . did we get a correct answer?oldsalt wrote:Yes, SEALs count as divers, but the USS Murphy is still under construction and hasn't been to Everett. I'd forgotten all of the ships named after divers. PO Stethem and LT Murphy both gave their lives and Chief Brashier lost his leg. It's a tough business. All of you military divers have my respect.

Bam, you got it. The Horn shark lives pretty shallow, and hides in the daytime. It has been known to crawl along the bottom on it's pectoral fins in opposition to swimming.citycatred wrote:Horn shark?
I didn't read the part about the Murphy not being in Everett, so maybe continue on with that question.

Re: The return of SCUBA trivia!!!
Sorry, didn't read this through all the way, but SEALS do not really count as "Navy Divers" as you listed. The Navy Diver is an MOS of it's own. SEALs don't fall in to that category unless that was their MOS before entering BUDs (Which I don't believe Murphy was).oldsalt wrote:Yes, SEALs count as divers, but the USS Murphy is still under construction and hasn't been to Everett. Alright folks -- sorry for the confusion. Let's award a point for the horn shark answer, but then revert back to Curt's Everett ship question moving forward. However gets it right gets to ask the next one.

You get the point for the question, but I misread the part where the Murphy was never in Everett.

You got it. The USS Momsen, homeported in Everett, is named after Robert B. (Swede) Momsen the pioneer in mixed gas diving, the diver who lead the rescue of the crew of the Squalus, and the inventor of the Momsen Lung - a type of SCUBA. An interesting aside is that the ship buried Swede Momsen's son at sea. Swede Momsen was the subject of the book "Those Terrible Hours" by Haas.

Very cool! So, does that mean the next round goes to Defied? I'm confused, but I would like to see this thread keep going.....oldsalt wrote:You got it. Anyway, Seals have a variety of adaptions in order to avoid nitrogen narcosis during deep dives, what is the primary adaption that allows them to do these deep dive?
As a hint, the main seal studied during these cases was the Wedell Seal.

The Weddell seal has collapsible lungs and a spleen that acts like a scuba tank.
