4-20 Club Dive, Pizza and Beer De-Brief

Post by Sergeant Pepper »

Good friends, and good food. What more can be said. I don't even think I met all of the people that were there from the dive club, but there were a lot of us. My son, myself, and most importantly, my wife all had a great time. She said it was fun hanging out with a good group of adult people, so again, thank you. =D>

Two awesome dives ... the first with Sounder and Tom Nic and the second with Lamont.

I also ended up with some deco obligation on the second dive ... went deep, stayed long. Stayed longer in the shallows ... freezing my arse off ... while my deco cleared. Wish I'd have thought to bring my bottle of EAN50.

Nice turnout ... I think our little group pretty much dominated the cove last night.

Got some nice pics ... lots-o-nudis out these days. I'll post a photo show here when I have a chance to put one together. Gotta head back up there now for a refresher class ...

Mr. and Mrs. Sounder--You guys Rock! Thank you for setting this up. (The only thing that could have been better would have been if Mrs. Sounder had her dry gloves and could have joined us. Next time.....)

And thanks Captain Jack--I didn't even see your post saying you'd be there last night until today so our buddying up was a happy coincidence, but I'm glad we did. I was pleased to finally make it to Olive's Den and the Sailfin Sculpin was a beaut! It was good diving with someone who is as frenetic with their light as I am. ;)

Good seeing everyone--can't wait until May's outing!

I really enjoyed the evening after a stressful day at work. Nice easy dive with Tom and Doug and better viz than I expected.

Really enjoyed my new steel tank but was still a little over weighted.

It was great meeting you all and thanks to Tom Nic and Sounder for letting me tag along!

Here are some pics from the three dives that Sounder and I did. You can view them as a sideshow or hit detail view if you want my comments.

Here's a link to my photo show ... http://photoshow.comcast.net/watch/Fh8pv7uT

Also, on the dive with Tom and Doug, I saw a tiny nudibranch (on the hull of the Honey Bear) that I could not ID. It's a poor quality photo, but the thing was so tiny that the camera didn't know what I was trying to focus on ... it ws perhaps 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch long. Does anyone know what it is?

Was great to hook up with so many of y'all. Couldn't stick around for pizza ... had to get home so I could clean my gear and get back up there this morning for a class.

Thanks Adrian!

I have an Olympus C770 UltraZoom. I originally purchased it about 4 years ago because of the 10x optical zoom. It is only 4 megapixels, but it has been a good camera. The optical zoom is pretty worthless underwater... but it's great for getting close to eagles and seagulls above water!

<a href="" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/172/4673 ... 13de54.jpg" width="500" height="374" alt="P4200089"></a>

When I began to dive my kids purchased the underwater housing for me and I've been having a blast taking pictures. Photography and the critters thusly captured are one of my favorite parts of diving. The coolest critters in our waters are very tiny! Good macro and the ability to enlarge the pics are essential. For instance, the clown nudi and the flabbelina below are maybe 1/2 inch across... more likey 1/4. The shot isn't as clear as I'd like both because of water conditions, having only 4 megapixels, and my own less than steady hand... but still beautiful to me nonetheless.

I want a higher megapixel camera for the great macro subjects we have in our PNW waters. In the next month or so I'll probably pick up the Casio 1000 that Calvin's been talking about and that a few other folks on the board have purchased.

Great pictures as always Bob! I think I saw that same Mosshead Warbonnet but didn't see the Decorated.

Your shot had much better clarity and composition... Much to learn! :book:

I had O2 in the car, too... should have said something...

I do like the new CF200 for warmth, even after 70 mins I wasn't that cold -- it was mostly just my hands that were frozen because of the wetgloves...

I liked the grunt sculpin in the toilet...

Yep. Doubles and Deco dives pushed me to get dry gloves.....there's a HUGE difference between 50 minute dives and 90 minute dives.

Bob, as usual, great show. The nudibranch in question is Salt-And-Pepper Nudibranch (Aegires albopunctatus).

Thanks to everyone who came. It was a great night and we'll have to do it again. I had a wonderful day of diving with Tom and a great evening trip to the I-beams with Tom & Bob... my first time to go all the way to their end. Nice that the tide was way out too - extended the bottom time.

Lots of critters were sighted but the rogue shrimp remained in hiding... he knew Sgt. Pepper and Diver C were there with cocktail forks in hand. Diver C also spotted the rare "white octopus," which after it didn't move while trying to blend in, Sgt. Pepper poked... then they found out it was dead. #-o

In the next several days I'll toss out a few dates for May to see what works. If the weather improves, it'd be fun to put one together and have a BBQ in the parking lot. I'm thinking the next one should be in the South-end. We'll see.

Anyway, I had a great time and thanks again. It was a lot of fun and I hope we can continue these as informal club get-togethers. It was the perfect amount of organization and planning... i.e. "be here, around this time, and find someone to dive... then come for pizza." It stuck perfectly with the credo of NWDC - "No dues, no rules, no officers, no politics, no BS.

If you're planning a BBQ I would suggest Les Davis as a site ... there's picnic tables and a grassy area where we could set up our apre-dive activities. And parking's gonna become more and more of an issue at Cove 2 now that the nice weather's here ...

I'll check with Mrs. Sounder. We might be going to Goldendale for a weekend of horse riding (I haven't been on a horse since I left Arizona). If not, I'm in.

Hey everyone..

I am very bummed that I didn't get to dive on Friday. It was my own choice, I know. But there was too much weird stuff going on. I had actually had a total of 6 people that said they wanted to go with me.. Then on Tuesday last week one of them bailed. On Thursday I had a maybe call from 2 others (they were coming together) and then Friday Matt called before the dive, said he was running too late and had to bail. The Maybes turned into flat out no's after I got there, because one of them had students in the morning, and my for sure I am going to be there guy, didn't show.. So I was kind of in a funk and wasn't feeling to festive. Plus that goes way above and beyond my rule of threes and so I just called the dive.

I will definetly try to make the next one.. Did Bubbles really go topless and dance at the Honey Bear like she said? I hope someone got video of that or at least photos.. I have reviewed the photos so far and I don't see it...

Les Davis is a good choice as long as we do that one soon.. That site gets pretty crazy when the vis gets really bad during the summer IMHO..

Cheers,

Holly
