If you haven't read "Sport Diver" this month, there is an article about diving in Puget Sound. This is part of the article.

I enjoy reading Sportdiver but IMO, this was a poorly research article. It names only a few divespots, not even the best ones, and he states "Summer (is the best time to go and dive), but hardcore Washingtonians dive all year"
I now wonder how well other destinations are researched that they publish articles about.

Re: Article in Sport Diver
I have not read this article, as I haven't subscribed to Sport Diver in years. Still, your comment doesn't surprise me as poorly researched articles seem to abound in the industry, especially covering locations with which the editor/s have little or no experience, (ie - places like the PNW!).Pinkpadigal wrote: this was a poorly research article. One of the primary reasons that Skin Diver magazine went belly-up a few years back is that it finally dawned on their readers that much of their content was utter crap and not to be believed. Some magazines also have the manufacturers themselves write the equipment reviews....something that I've always had a real problem with since I've never spoken with a manufacturer that will honestly tell you the flaws in their product unless they are pressed to do so.
Magazines like Advanced Diver Magazine (ADM) and Wreck Diving Magazine (my second favorite mag!) may be small, but no one ever accuses the writers of not having actually made the dives when and how they describe them in the articles. I guess that is the difference between mass production and sincere writing. That's probably also why we're all "poor as church mice"! HA!

I actually got a chance to talk to the author of the article at DEMA. I was very nice and did not criticize his writing and I invited him to come back to the PNW to dive with me.
He was an A$% to me. Very arrogant and full of himself. Basically, blew me off. He did not say much to me, mainly just patronized me.
But hey, what do I know? I just dive the Sound 1-2 times a week for the last 6 years.

Imagine my shock! HA!Pinkpadigal wrote: He was an A$% to me. Very arrogant and full of himself. Basically, blew me off. He did not say much to me, mainly just patronized me.
It was probably an "Internet Article", written based on information gleaned from the web and/or from old magazines. During your "conversation" did he ever tell you that he had actually dived up here?
Good for you for yanking his chain!

Actually, that's technically correct, the state sales tax rate is 6.5%. Local city/county and RTA sales taxes make up the rest. But I didn't realize that King County taxes you even more for dining out: Tax Rate LookupNwbrewer wrote:And I've been overpaying my sales tax too! ](*,) According to that article, it's only 6.5 %..... Looks like quality journalism to me.

I was just thinking the same thing after reading it, that it sounded like he spent maybe 15-30 minutes online to get info for it. Local divers know that "Octopus Hole" is something of a misnomer, there's no more octopuses there than any other site, in fact, probably fewer. And if he really had done his homework, he would know that the plural for octopus is NOT "octopi", it's "octopuses". (But be careful how you say that!)John Rawlings wrote:Imagine my shock!
